I am incredibly proud of what we are achieving together with partners like Youth Scotland through the Cashback programme - a programme that uses the ill-gotten gains of criminals to create safer communities by encouraging young people into positive activities. I hope that we continue to see more young people reach their potential throughout this phase of the Cashback programme and beyond. Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Humza Yousaf MSP
Generation CashBack (Phase 5)
Generation CashBack is an established project delivered by a partnership consortium of Boys' Brigade Scotland, Girlguiding Scotland, Scouts Scotland and Youth Scotland. Generation CashBack will build on Phase 4 work and continue to grow the scale and reach of community-based youth work in disadvantaged areas, and in communities which are experiencing anti-social behaviour and crime. Generation CashBack enables young people to access safe spaces and develop their confidence, resilience and skills. Phase 5 of the programme will run from April 2020 – March 2023.
Reaching 8,000 young people across Scotland over three years, we will deliver CashBack outcomes through two strands: ‘Grow’ and ‘Lead’
- Grow
Local Development Officers (LDOs) will help new and existing youth groups to grow their offer for young people. Using a needs-analysis approach, LDOs will support Grow groups to increase their focus on tackling anti-social behaviour and delivering diversionary activity. This support includes helping groups recruit new volunteers and upskilling youth workers to deliver new activities and issue-based programmes, as well as providing access to small scale capacity-building funding for essential resources and running costs. - Lead
2,000 young people, disadvantaged and affected by crime, including those in Young Offenders Institutions, will be supported to learn and develop new skills which improves their educational and employability options. Young people will be supported to put these skills into practice in their communities, developing their leadership skills, while gaining a range of youth awards through each consortium partner. These awards are designed to meet young people’s needs; enabling them to develop their pathways into further learning and employment.
Generation CashBack is a Scotland-wide project and will reach multiple areas in all 32 Local Authorities.
