About Location CashBack

Location CashBack is a three-year, Scotland-wide, large-scale youth leadership and participation programme funded by the Scottish Government CashBack for Communities funding via Inspiring Scotland. Location CashBack is a consortium project, delivered by Youth Scotland, Scouts Scotland, Boys’ Brigade and Girlguiding Scotland. The project started on 1 April 2026. The project follows the success of Generation CashBack.

Key Aims

Location CashBack supports young people in SIMD 1-2 areas and young people who face barriers including ACEs, poverty, crime and anti-social behaviour. Building on their connection to trusted local youth groups, the project offers safe spaces, mentoring, personal development and accredited leadership opportunities that open new pathways for learning, life and work for young people.

Outcomes

Location CashBack works towards the following outcomes:

  • Outcome 1: Young people are afforded safe spaces and suitable activities to combat boredom, frustration and isolation, which can contribute to antisocial behaviours.
  • Outcome 2: Young people understand their own value and impact within their communities and are supported to become positive influences and leader within their communities

Why It Matters

Location CashBack takes an assets-based approach: we strengthen local youth groups to reach those most at risk, offering safe, consistent support while connecting young people to national training, accreditation and leadership opportunities. This approach delivers national reach with local impact, creating strong networks of support while developing young leaders embedded in their own communities.

Young people benefit from diversionary activities, improved confidence, resilience, skills for learning, life and work, accredited achievements and better prospects for employment or education. Families and communities benefit from reduced anti-social behaviour, stronger relationships with local services and young people leading positive change in local places and spaces.

When young people are empowered through meaningful opportunities to learn, lead and innovate, they serve as a transformative force, driving profound and lasting change locally and globally.

World Economic Forum, 2025, Global Shapers Impact Report.

Building on their connection to trusted local youth groups, Location CashBack offers safe spaces, mentoring, personal development and accredited leadership opportunities that open new pathways for learning, life and work through three strands of work:

Engage

Learn to Lead Level 1- Engage will allow young people to try new things, grow in confidence, develop resilience, gain skills and achieve accreditation in their local group

Empower

Learn to Lead Level 2 – Empower will allow young people connect with peers, access specialist training, gain employability and leadership skills, achieve accreditation and deliver social action that makes a difference locally.

Advance

Learn to Lead Level 3 – Advance will allow young people to progress towards advanced leadership, gain higher-level skills, qualifications and experience, and become influential young leaders and role models in their communities.

Worker Training

Through a membership with one of the consortium partners (Youth Scotland, Scouts Scotland, Girlguiding Scotland and the Boys’ Brigade), local youth groups will be able to access training and other support to help improve their capacity and expand their activity offer. This will support young people who participate in the programme in having a space to express themselves, meet new people, make friends, access information and feel supported by trusted adults.
