Generation CashBack - HMYOI Polmont

The CashBack funded leadership programme continues to make a difference for the young people at HMYOI Polmont and builds on the Breaking Barriers project funded by the Gannochy Trust

The case studies portray the views of two young men engaged in the leadership initiative, as well as the staff’s reflections on the programme and its positive impact.

Young people participate as peer mentors at the Polmont gym to develop their skills and confidence while supporting others in improving their health. Staff explain how beneficial the programme has been. It makes a real difference for their confidence, helps decrease tensions and promotes conversations and support.

The Sports Leadership courses reduce the risk of re-offence and provide a wide range of opportunities and formally acknowledged SCQF qualifications for the young people to improve chances of employment upon their release.

I’ve gained qualifications – I’ll never be looked at the way I was before, because I’ve been in prison – but I’ll try and regain what I lost through work and education. (Pascale)
