Menu of Training

The Menu of Training provides issue-based and practical training in various locations through Scotland; topics include Child Protection, First Aid, Anti Sectarianism and Alcohol Awareness.

Alcohol Awareness (Facilitated by Alcohol Focus)

This training workshop looks at attitudes towards alcohol, and the role that youth workers can play in supporting young people to understand and address the issues associated with alcohol misuse.  Increase knowledge of age appropriate interventions in terms of harm reduction and education, and share knowledge of useful services and agencies.

(3 hrs.  Minimum 8 participants, maximum 20)

 

Anti Sectarianism

A training module looking at sectarianism and the consequences of sectarian behaviour on individuals and communities.  The workshop will look at a brief history of sectarianism in Scotland, address the stereotypes associated with it and look at ways to challenge the attitudes surrounding it. 

(3 hrs.  Minimum 8 participants, maximum 16)

 

Conflict Resolution

Training to help you explore challenging behaviour and find strategies to resolve conflict situations.  The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to examine their existing skills in dealing with conflict and will promote the use of communication, positive body language and negotiation skills to help manage conflict. 

(3 hrs.  Minimum 8 participants, maximum 12)

 

Event Management

This workshop presents information, advice and guidelines for planning both large and small-scale events, helping participants with planning and providing materials to help manage events successfully.

(2.5 hrs.  Minimum 8 participants, maximum 16)

 

Games, Games, Games

A fun-filled event featuring traditional and new games and bringing sport-based activities into the world of play.   The session will provide a fresh perspective on team games and lots of ideas for games that can be used in a variety of settings, and how to adapt them for different. 

(4 hours.  Minimum 10 participants, maximum 30)

 

Safe and Sound Awareness

The training provides an opportunity for youth workers and volunteers to look at their current working practice against the framework of Safe and Sound and ensure they have systems in place to create a safe working environment.  It also outlines the requirements of the Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003, as well as forthcoming legislation, and provides opportunities to share best practice.

Risk Assessment

This training workshop supports groups to identify potential risks and eliminate problems before they occur, and looks at key Health and Safety requirements.

TOPS Training (Facilitated by Youth Sport Trust)

An exciting new programme of 'alternative' sport & physical activities, designed for use in youth group settings and to encourage the involvement of young people who are not currently accessing sport and recreational activities through traditional routes.  Participants will also receive resources, equipment and activity cards to support activities with young people.

 

Emergency First Aid (Facilitated by British Red Cross)

How would you stop a young person from choking, how might you deal with blood loss, would you know what to do when a young person goes into shock?  These are some of the areas that will be covered in this concise training workshop.  A practical session that provides a brief introduction to basic first aid with an emphasis on life saving skills.

(3 hrs.  Minimum 8 participants, maximum 12).

 

Racism in Scotland (Facilitated by Show Racism the Red Card)

This new training module outlines the causes and consequences of racism and equips youth workers with a range of skills to challenge racism among young people and to encourage respect difference of race, ethnicity, nationality and religion.
