Toolkits

A variety of toolkits are available to accompany the programmes and activities young people are undertaking as part of Youth Achievement Awards. 

These toolkits, produced by UK Youth, can be useful resources for workers looking for activities, ideas, example sheets or simply more detailed information on a specific topic area. Workers using the toolkits to support Youth Achievement Awards programmes should first undergo Youth Achievement Awards Induction Training.

Financial Awareness Toolkit

The Financial Awareness Toolkit was developed by UK Youth and supported by HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland), and aims to help young people improve their money management skills.  The toolkit helps young people to get to grips with issues such as renting a home, borrowing money and understanding their consumer rights. It is split into 6 key sections that include challenge sheets, information sheets, practical how to sheets, signpost sheets for further information, examples of financial documents, sctivity and recording sheets and a CD-Rom.

Drinkaware Challenges Toolkit

The Drinkaware Challenges toolkit supports workers in engaging young people in the practical elements of alcohol education and awareness raising, including how activities can be linked to the Youth Achievement Awards.

Information and activities are divided into five key themes around alcohol issues, with explanations, challenges sheets and activities sheets. The resource also includes a CD Rom and good practice DVD.

Youth Active Challenges Toolkit

This toolkit assists workers to develop and deliver accessible sports and physical activity programmes with the young people they worth with in a range of settings.

It contains ideas and starting points for a range of sports and activities. The toolkit also includes session plans and recording sheets, signposts to other sports focused awards and organisations and a CD Rom to enable workers to print out session plans and evidence sheets easily.

NEW Healthaware Challenges Toolkit

The Healthaware Challenges Toolkit is designed to encourage young people to participate in and develop their own health and wellbeing projects.

There are a range of resources to support workers to develop health and wellbeing activities with young people, including sample challenges and activities, recording sheets and signposting sheets for further information. The pack also contains promotional badges to help engage young people and generate discussion.

Portfolio Building – Integrating Basic Skills

This guide explores portfolio building and accredited learning as a means of supporting young people in gaining qualifications.

It contains essential information for workers supporting young people to develop portfolios, including methods of planning and presentation of work, collecting and assessing evidence of learning achievements, ways of supporting young people with basic skills needs, guidelines on the role of the Assessor and Verifier in accredited learning, a list of what constitutes learning evaluation and creating a good learning environment.

NEW Accrediting Residential Learning Toolkit

The Accrediting Residential Learning Toolkit is a practical guide to realising the benefits of combining the strengths of the residential experience with Youth Achievement Awards. It provides ideas and resources for running a residential, where young people’s learning is recognised and accredited.

The toolkit includes: brief information on the background of the residential experience and Youth Achievement Awards; a framework for planning, running and reviewing a residential experience; practical ideas for involving young people in the process and; guidance and resources for evidencing the learning for accreditation, within the framework of the Youth Achievement Awards.
