What do the courses involve?

Types of courses include Day Certificates in leadership skills certificates, TOP Activity leadership weekends and Sports Leader UK Awards in Dance and Sport.  All courses offer opportunities for social and personal development, as well as group work skills and confidence building.

See Types of Courses Currently Available for more details.

Who can take part?

Courses are open to young women aged 16-24. Applicants don’t have to be experienced in sport or dance but must have an enthusiasm for physical activity and be interested in becoming a leader within their own community, youth group or school.

Applications are particularly welcome from young women who

  • live in disadvantaged communities
  • have experienced homelessness or are living in care
  • have disabilities or mental health issues
  • are from black and ethnic minority communities
  • are mothers of young children.

Unfortunately young women with a degree or with a formal sports qualification are not eligible to apply.

Do participants gain accreditation?

The Youth Achievement Awards delivered by Youth Scotland, also provide an additional opportunity for young people to have their leadership achievements accredited.  Participants will find out more details about the Youth Achievement Awards during the Leadership courses.

What are the costs involved?

If applications are successful, a commitment fee of £20 is requested. Participants will be responsible for their own travel costs and providing their own clothing and trainers. All other costs are covered.
