Girls On The Move

Girls on the Move is a project designed to increase physical activity levels among girls and young women in Scotland.

About Girls on the Move

Girls on the Move was developed by The Robertson Trust in partnership with the Scottish Executive Health Improvement Department. From 2005 to 2007 the Leadership Programme was delivered by the Scottish Sports Association with support from Sports Leaders UK and Sport Scotland, The Robertson Trust managed the Participation Programme.

In the first two years, 1250 young women took part in one of 65 different Participation projects, and 126 young women received Leadership Awards after completing one of the 10 Leadership Courses that took place around the country.  Youth Scotland built on this fantastic work in 2007-08 and supported 31 Participation projects, and provided opportunities for 100 young women to complete Dance or Leadership Awards and Tribal Groove Training.

A Girls on the Move Development Worker was appointed in April 2008 to develop the project and help link both participation and leadership strands. Over the next 3 years Youth Scotland hope to attract 160 young women to leadership courses each year and fund 50 participation projects each year.
