| Involvement Training: Developing the leaders of tomorrow Do you work with young people that would benefit from a structured programme to help them play a more active part in their youth group, school, home or community? Youth Scotland’s Involvement Training programme is a structured first step to developing young people as leaders in their own communities. It is open to young people aged between 14 and 18, and also supports workers to deliver the programme within their own groups. What’s involved? The Involvement Training programme follows a three stage process: 1) Group leaders attend tutor training so that they can deliver the Stage 1 programme of training with their group 2) A residential training weekend for young people and their group leaders 3) The practical delivery of a project using the skills developed by young people in their own community What does it cost? The whole programme costs £500 for Youth Scotland affiliated groups (and £600 for non-affiliated groups). This covers 2 places for workers on the tutor training, 5 places for young people and/or workers on the residential weekends and 2 copies of the IT Kit resource pack for each worker attending the tutor training. Interested? If you have identified a group of young people that would benefit from the programme, then first stage in the Involvement Training programme is a one day tutor training course for workers. The next tutor training dates are: · 19th May in Edinburgh · 1st June in Glasgow Please note: Youth Scotland can deliver training at a time and location to suit the needs of individual groups, so if these dates don’t work for your group, ask about alternatives! Visit the Involvement Training section of the Youth Scotland website for more info and to download a registration form. Young people, aged 14-21, have the opportunity to become Youth Legacy Ambassadors, helping to promote the key themes of an active, sustainable, connected and flourishing Scotland in their communities. The Youth Legacy Ambassadors will have a huge part to play in making sure everyone in Scotland gets the most out of hosting the Commonwealth Games and other major events such as International Children’s Games 2011 and London 2012. They will be encouraged to work creatively and imaginatively, with comprehensive training and support, to develop their own skills and knowledge. Youth Legacy Ambassadors will work with other organisations to ensure young people have a voice and can influence how the games will benefit their communities. The sorts of things Youth Legacy Ambassadors will get involved in might include creating online articles, podcasts, blogs and videos, attending events and helping everyone in Scotland get involved in Legacy themed activities. For more information and an application pack, please click here. Applications should be returned to Young Scot by the 23rd April 2010. O2 ‘Think Big’ programme – grants for young people to make a difference Mobile phone company O2, in partnership with the National Youth Agency and UK Youth, has launched a programme to award cash-in-hand grants for young people to make a difference in their local communities. Youth Scotland is looking forward to working with UK Youth to deliver the ‘Think Big’ programme in Scotland. How does it work? Think Big wants to hear from young people aged 13-25 with bright ideas for projects that will bring people together and benefit communities. Successful applicants will receive a £300 grant towards project costs and Youth Scotland will also be providing a day's training in the skills they will need to get their idea up and running. If this project is a success, they will then have the opportunity to apply for an additional grant of up to £2500, and four days' leadership training. O2 employees will support the projects by volunteering as on-line helpers and mentors. The aim of the project is to fund at least 500 projects this year alone - an investment of £3 million from O2. Apply now! Applications must be made online through the 02 Think Big website . You will also find case studies on the website about other successful projects funded by O2.
