the latest funding opportunities Please feel free to forward this bulletin to anyone who may find it of interest. --------------------------------------------------- YOUTH SCOTLAND NEWS Anti-bullying week projects prove a big success In November, five Youth Scotland affilliated groups were each awarded £1,000 each by respectme, Scotland's anti-bullying service, to promote Anti-Bullying Week in their local area. Lots of activities took place, with projects including: -
Brae Youth Club's 'Demolishing the Divides' disco in Shetland -
A Question Time session by 6VT in Edinburgh, sponsored by Sarah Boyack MSP at the Scottish Parliament -
Questionaires, workshops and an art competition organised by Callander Youth Group -
A drama project bringing together two groups of young carers in Glasgow -
Backchat youth group in Helensburgh's drama, dance and puppet show performance. Congratulations to all groups involved. Involvement Training It has been a successful Autumn for the Involvement Training programme, which has included tutor training days across Scotland and residential weekends attended by groups of young people and workers in Aviemore, Perthshire and Castle Douglas. The Involvement Training programme encourages young people to get involved in the leadership and management of their own groups. It is a three stage process which includes tutor training, a residential weekend, and supporting young people to deliver a project in their own community. For more information about how your group can get involved, visit the Youth Scotland website. Win money and an all-expenses paid residential with No Messin'! The No Messin'! programme, powered by Network Rail, offers groups the chance to win a grant of £200 and an all expenses paid 3 day residential. All your group has to do is come up with a project that addresses the issues the group have around what makes them feel unsafe in their own community. Girls on the Move DVD launched The new Girls on the Move Leadership DVD is available to view on the Youth Scotland website now! Filmed over a number of leadership courses that ran during the summer of 2009, this creative film offers an insight into what is offered on the Girls on the Move leadership courses. View the video here! Amazing Things 2 The second edition of Amazing Things has now been released by the Awards Network, with the support of SQA. This updated publication provides a summary of 21 awards available across Scotland to recognise, value and/or accredit the achievements of young people aged 12 - 25 through youth work approaches. Download Amazing Things 2 here. Moving Forward Award - closing date approaching! A reminder that the closing date for the Girls on the Move Moving Forward Award is 31st December. Celebrating young women that have completed a leadership course, young women can apply themselves or you can nominate a young person you have worked with. Applicants will be featured in a specially produced supplement and celebrated at the On the Move event in February, with a Sport Leaders UK Award presented to the individual who has shown the most progression. Click here for nominations forms. -------------------------------------------------- OTHER NEWS Nominate an outstanding health promoting youth worker - National Youth Worker of the Year Awards If you know someone working within a youth work setting who has made an important contribution to health improvement with and for young people, take this opportunity to recognise their outstanding service and contribution. The special 'health issues' category of the YouthLink Scotland National Youth Worker of the Year Awards is sponsored by NHS Health Scotland. Other categories in the Awards include full-time or full-time equivalent, sessional paid/part-time and Youth Service Manager of the Year. Nominate someone here. BBC Blast portrait competition BBC Blast is the BBC's youth creativity service, offering free creative learning opportunities for 13-19 year olds across the UK. They are currently running an art and design competition, challenging young people to design an album cover using images of a choice of three bands, and upload it to the Blast website. The selected winners will attend a 2-day art and design masterclass and create brand new promotional artwork for musician Paloma Faith under the guidance of industry professionals. Click here for more information. Power2010 - countdown to a new politics Power2010 is a campaign committed to give everyone a say in how democracy works for them. It aims to identify 5 key reforms to change the way we do politics, and then ensure every candidate standing for election backs these reforms. This will help to ensure that the next Parliament delivers what the nation feels is needed. The first phase, in which ideas were submitted, has now finished but in the new year Power2010 will be announcing a shortlist to be put to a public vote. Encourage the young people you work with to get involved and help change politics for the better. Visit the Power2010 website. Wave of Friendship Volunteer Exchange Programme The Wave of Friendship is a volunteer exchange programme that promotes and supports the exchanges of volunteers between Scotland and London by the provision of bursaries to cover travel, acomodation and other expenses. Volunteers can choose any opportunity that takes place between now and Sept 2010. The applications process is easy and sucessful applicants will receive burasries of up to £500 to over their costs. Volunteer Development Scotland are seeking organisations which would like to participate in the programme, and volunteers that would like to take part in the volunteer exchange programme. Nominate a place and it could be revived with a share of £100,000. More info, how to nominate and a list of projects already in the running can be found at the Bovril Great Outdoors website. BT Community Connections - deadline 5th Jan Community or charutable organisations looking to extend their work through the use of the internet and ICT could apply for a BT Community Connections award. Groups can apply for a laptop and a year's free broadband connection. More at the BT Community Connections website. People's Postcode Trust Funding - next deadline is 18th Jan The People's Postcode Trust funding support projects that make a real difference to community groups and charitable organisations across Scotland. Funding is available for 3 month projects ranging from £500 up to £100,000. Full criteria and application information can be found at the People's Postcode website.
