Youth Scotland aims to enable young people throughout Scotland to maximise their full potential through the provision of quality educational and social opportunities.

Youth Scotland is the largest non-uniformed youth organisation in Scotland and one of the key providers of information, training, advice and support to part time and voluntary youth workers.

Youth Scotland has a membership of over 500 youth groups and organisations, and works in partnership with a network of Area Associations and regional staff to support youth workers to deliver safe and inspiring leisure opportunities to young people throughout Scotland. 

Strategic Aims

Youth Scotland is committed to supporting youth workers to deliver good quality, inclusive and effective youth work.

The organisation aims to:

  • Support young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors in their youth groups and communities.
  • Increase the effectiveness of those working with young people, particularly part-time and voluntary youth workers.

History

Youth Scotland has its roots in the Girls Club movement, which started as far back as the 1860s. Over the years the name of the organisation has changed reflecting a growing and changing membership.

  • In 1957 the organisation became the Scottish Association of Mixed Clubs and Girls Clubs
  • In 1961 it changed to the Scottish Association of Youth Clubs
  • In 1988 it changed again to Youth Clubs Scotland

And most recently, after a vote by the membership in November 2001, the organisation became Youth Scotland, reflecting the diverse range of its members.

  • 576 youth groups
  • 44,982 young people
  • 6024 youth workers
